Synopsis

She’s in a white dress that dances around her ankles, and her hair tumbles in a long sheet of curls down her back. A veil covers her beautiful eyes, and she smiles directly at him. Janie is everything Rafe’s ever imagined she would be on her wedding day.

Breathtaking. Gorgeous. Perfect.

The moment he sees her walking down the aisle towards him, he knows that she’s the one.

Then she passes him, making her way to the man she’s to marry.

A man that wasn’t him.

A man that he knows with one hundred percent certainty isn’t good enough for her.

It seems that her father isn’t the only one who’s having a hard time giving her away. Rafe only wishes he knew why.

Everything about Janie sparks protective instincts he doesn’t feel for anyone, not even his own fiancé.

What he feels for the bride, however, isn’t merely a simple attraction. He knows that something is there just beneath the surface…if only he could reach it.

It has to be something huge, too, otherwise he wouldn’t be drinking whiskey straight from the flask in a church pew and wondering how many years he would do in prison if he shot the groom in front of about a hundred witnesses—half of those being cops.

He was good…but not that good.

A near-death experience cost Rafe almost six months of his memory, but right now he can’t help but feel like a huge mistake is being made on both of their parts. One that’s going to cost him everything.

Then she says I do.

Synopsis

Tired of waiting for her big break in the fashion industry, Sky Gonzalez, eternal part-time student and overworked retail drone, quits her job, sublets her New York apartment, and embarks on a semester abroad study program in Paris. Paris! Time to throw caution to the winds and jump-start her dreams. What’s the worst that could happen?

How about getting sent to the wrong Paris? As in Paris-frigging-Minnesota?

Bye-bye career dreams. Bye-bye glamour and haute couture. Hello flannel shirts, mind-numbing cold, zero bars on the cell phone, and socially challenged mountain men with tons of unruly facial hair.

So yeah, let the truck barreling her way hit her, please. Less painful.

Logan should have dodged the little lost waif and kept on driving. Who in their right mind walked in the middle of the road, dressed in white from head to high heels, during a snowstorm? Clueless city girls, that’s who. Sky is all that Logan has gladly left behind: stylish, cosmopolitan, and a massive pain in the butt. He wouldn’t trade a single day in his quirky little corner of the woods for all the high-maintenance beauties the city can offer.

Too bad this beauty has been deemed a health hazard and quarantined in his house. Damn his doomsday-prepper neighbors and their paranoid emergency protocols. Now  he has to keep Sky in and the pandemic squad out until the roads are clear. The question is, will that happen before or after Sky realizes she’s under house arrest?

Ah, the best-laid plans…

CHAPTER 1

Somewhere in the back of beyond, Minnesota
SOS. Car broke down. Stuck in snowstorm. Check my location and alert troopers.

Sky Gonzalez pressed Send and threw her cell in the air as high as she could. There was nothing but trees and snow around, no cell coverage to be had where she was standing. Maybe another six feet up, the situation was different.

She caught the phone on its way down. Checked the screen. Nope. Jesus Christ, the whole country was infested with butt-ugly, fake-tree cell towers, and she had to get lost in a place where all the damn trees were real.

Turning against the gusts of wind and brushing flakes away from her face, she gave it another go, tossing as far as she dared. Which wasn’t far, really, because she wasn’t the most coordinated person in the world. If she dropped the phone and it smashed into a million pieces, or she lost sight of where it landed, that was it for her last lifeline to the outside world. She’d never find her cute, sparkly cell again—slick and thin and white.

In hindsight, going for that color had been a very poor decision.

Still no dice. Squinting, she tossed the device up again. Hopefully her message would eventually go through, and Lola would contact the authorities. After all, it was Lola’s fault Sky was in this bind. Of all the crazy shit her sister had pulled over the years, this stunt trumped every one of them.

   Every. Single. One.

She caught her cell a third time. Nothing. Well, practice made perfect, right? Besides, she didn’t have much else to do except throw that stupid phone into the sky and continue walking. The road must lead somewhere. Sooner or later she’d arrive there. Or she’d get lucky and her cell would catch a signal. Or she’d freeze to death and become a cautionary tale to stupid girls. Whatever came first.

She looked back to where her car was being buried under a steady fall of big flakes. Steam was still coming from the hood. How a car could overheat in the middle of a snowstorm, she didn’t know. That annoying little red light on the dashboard that had flashed at her for the last twenty miles might have had something to do with it. Not that she could have done shit about it, seeing as the last person she’d crossed paths with was at a gas station a hundred miles away. Or so. She wasn’t great at calculating distances or reading maps.

Orienting herself wasn’t one of her fortes either, evidenced by the embarrassing fact that her destination should only have been about fifteen miles from the regional airport and she’d still managed to miss it. She’d tried backtracking, but she’d only succeeded in getting more lost. And that was hours ago. The car’s GPS had stopped working right after she left the airport, and her cell had been without a steady signal for a long while before the car itself died. For all she knew, she’d crossed state lines. Heck, she might be in Canada. Or in frigging Alaska.

Great way to kick off the New Year. Best first of January ever.

Eyes on her airborne cell, she tripped and fell flat on her face, the useless device landing on the back of her head.

Coordinate colors? Forecast fashion trends? Put together a knockout outfit from a thrift shop? All that she could do, no problem. But apparently, throwing an object up in a straight line and catching it on the fly were not in her skill set.

Aggravated, she got up, patted the snow from her pants, and burrowed her hands under her jacket. The wind wasn’t too strong, but the constant bee stings of flakes on her skin, along with her shitty clothes, made her feel like she was freezing. The extremely fashionable hand-me-downs from her boss were not designed for off-road snow trudging.

Then again, she should have been strolling around Paris’s Golden Triangle of luxury boutiques and haute couture labels. Or sitting in a cute little café, watching the sun set over the Champs Elysées, enjoying the mild chill of the French winter—which this year was supposed to be warmer than usual—sipping red wine, and munching on a baguette slathered in gooey cheese. For that, she was perfectly dressed.

Thank God she’d gotten that ridiculous white bunny-ear hat at the airport, ugly as it was, and the white bunny-paw mittens. The snowstorm must have caught other travelers off guard, because those had been the only winter garments in the tiny store. High heels and a bunny hat. Hell of a fashion statement. On the plus side, she was color coordinated down to her underwear. White pants. White jacket. White boots. White hat.

She should have stayed in the broken car. No heat and a cramped space were a thousand times preferable to walking in the open, but she was so tired, she couldn’t afford to sit idle. She’d fall asleep in a second and wake up a Popsicle. Or, more to the point, not wake up at all.

That she’d been awake thirty hours and counting wasn’t helping. But why would she have wasted her last night in New York City sleeping when she thought she had a transatlantic flight ahead of her? Eight hours of uninterrupted sleep. Sky was infamous for drifting off in the weirdest places and the most impossible positions. Tourist class, no leg room, screaming babies? Bring it on. Heck, once she’d zonked out in a jumper seat and snored there for hours, back in the day when she flew standby, courtesy of a friend’s industry-discount tickets.

Looking forward to a cozy nap in coach, she’d gone partying with friends instead of resting—and checking her flight details. Now she was stuck in the middle of nowhere, sleep-deprived, knee-deep in snow, freezing her butt off, and probably catching the mother of all flus.

Minnesota. Where the heck was Minnesota? She was an East Coast person through and through. She hadn’t been this far west since that time she took the wrong train and ended up in Newark. That had been traumatic enough, thank you very much.

She glanced around. It was beautiful, though. Perfect snowflakes poured out of the sky, blanketing the whole landscape in white. Very… Christmassy. Too bad it wasn’t Christmas, and she was lost, alone, and irremediably soaked. Her hair and makeup were ruined. And let’s not talk about her brand-new manicure. Hansel and Gretel dropped bread crumbs. Her? She was dropping fake nails all over the place.

Damn the countryside. Not a single soul around to ask for directions. Where were aggressive taxi drivers when one needed them? Rude walkers, honking cars, hotdog vendors, a Starbucks on every corner—there was nothing like that here. No landmarks she would recognize.

Just snow, trees, and a back road, poorly delineated and with worse signage, all of it getting fuzzier by the second.

And that was the view in the middle of the day. She shuddered to think how all this would look when it started getting dark. Were there wolves in Minnesota? Bears? Because if her high-heeled boots were shit walking in the snow, just wait until she had to climb a tree.

Sky was about to toss the cell up again, but she stopped. Sighed. Who was she kidding? She’d need a rocket launcher to make it past the treetops. She might as well put her phone to better use before the battery died or it got buried in the snow, Fargo style, until the end of time. She pressed the recording function and started talking. “This is the last will and testament of Sky Gonzalez. This message is addressed to my sister Lola. I leave you, Lola, all my belongings, which you’ll find in a car buried under a ton of snow somewhere in the middle of Minnesota, where you sent me!” she yelled into the device. “Know that I blame you for everything, and I will haunt you from the afterlife for freaking ever! You’ll never have a good night’s sleep, I guarantee you. Damn your presbyopia! Yes, you’ve hit forty. Yes, you need glasses. Own it, for Christ’s sake!”

Screaming seemed to help, marginally. To vent her frustration, if nothing else. She knew she shouldn’t be mad at Lola. After all, it wasn’t completely her sister’s fault. Never mind how busy she’d been, Sky should not have asked her sister to fill out her application for the semester-abroad program. At the very least, she should have suspected something was fishy when the secretary in the placement department had been so glad about Sky’s choice of location, she not only arranged the flight for her, but also informed her that the position came with a voucher for a car rental. Big red flag if Sky ever saw one.

“I don’t need a car,” she’d told the woman. Why would she? Public transportation was a far better option in European cities.

The secretary had sounded confused. “Uhh, believe me, you’ll need a car. Any preferences?”

In all her years as a part-time undergrad at that school, taking classes here and there whenever she could afford it, Sky had never heard the old hag be so nice to anyone. So she went for broke. “Okay, if I can choose, a cute little Mini would work.” Driving in style trumped trunk space any day. Besides, parking would be at a premium in Paris.

    “A what?”

She’d gone too far. “If it’s too much, I can—”

“No, no,” the secretary had hurried to interrupt. “It will be arranged.”

Probably she’d thought Sky was going to pull her application if she didn’t get her preferred car. Which she would have. In a heartbeat. Not because of the car, but because she had thought she was going to Paris, France. Not Paris, Minnesota. Who in her right mind would choose an internship in Minnesota when Europe was available?

   Sky Gonzalez, apparently.

Entering the semester-abroad program had been an ill-omened idea. She should have accepted her destiny as an eternal student and sales clerk turned personal shopper’s assistant. Dressing in castoffs from her boss and living vicariously through others people’s pics on Instagram. Making ends meet, a big smile on her face, happy and satisfied with her lot.

But traveling to Europe in the hopes of becoming a buyer for a classy continental retailer? Not in the cards for a Gonzalez.

Sky blew warm air over her frozen fingers. Manipulating her cell with the mittens had been a no-go, so she’d stashed them in her jacket. Time to fish them out, or she was going to lose more than her nails. Rummaging in her pockets produced only one mitten. Oh, shit. She must have dropped the other one. Fantastic. Getting better and better. Her teeth were chattering. The storm didn’t look like it was lightening up anytime soon, so she put on the one mitten and picked up her speed.

She pressed Record again and spoke into the phone.“I left Arnie at the dog hotel, so you are getting your sorry ass over there and picking him up, Lola. To hell with your allergies.”

Arnie hated it there. Ungrateful mutt. Much as it pained Sky, she couldn’t take him with her overseas. She’d dished out an indecent amount of money, money she couldn’t afford, to that first-class kennel, and he’d looked at her as if she were dumping him into the pound. “If I freeze to death… which at this stage is a very strong possibility, because the clattering sound you’re hearing is my teeth… I expect you to care for him. The expensive doggie treats he likes. His massage and spa days. The whole shebang, Lola. Do not cut corners with my baby. You owe me.”

When Sky stopped yelling into the phone, she realized the screeching she was hearing wasn’t coming from her. It sounded like brakes locking. She turned around in time to see the shiny grill of a black monster truck barreling her way.

Her eyes opened wide. Holy shit.

It was a damn good thing she couldn’t feel half her body anymore, because this was sooo going to hurt.
* * *

The second that Logan saw a flash of long red hair and something resembling human eyes, he wrenched the wheel, sending the truck spinning to the shoulder, barely missing the tiny figure in the middle of the road. Jesus Christ. Who in her right mind wore white from head to toe in a blizzard? The truck screeched to a halt, the passenger side a mere half an inch from the woman. He jumped down and ran around the front. She had fallen to the ground. Fuck, had he hit her? “You okay?”

“You… almost… ran… me… over,” she said, her teeth chattering. From fear or cold, he couldn’t tell. Well, he could. It had to be cold. Her clothes were flimsy at best. Flashy, but not warm at all.

“Are you crazy? Standing in the middle of the road, all in white? I could have killed you.”

He saw a gleam of defiance in her eyes. “White’s… trendy… this… year.”

Right. “There’s nothing ‘trendy’ in this part of Minnesota, lady. Where’s your car?”

“There.” She pointed in the direction Logan had come from. “Or there,” she corrected herself, pointing in the opposite direction. “Not sure now. It all looks… white.”

   No shit.

He tried to help her stand, but her legs buckled, so he lifted her in his arms. “Let’s get you somewhere warm, shall we?” After placing her on the passenger seat, he cranked up the heat.

   “Can’t leave… without… my bags.”

He stepped outside and scouted the ground a little.

Her footsteps indicated she’d been walking in the same direction he’d been driving, which meant he must have passed her vehicle and missed it. “What car are you driving?”

She sneezed, the useless synthetic-fur hood on her jacket flopping over her bunny-eared head. Out of the whole stupid outfit, that bunny-eared hat was the most sensible piece. “A Mini.”

Great. Wherever she’d left the car, it was probably buried now.

“We’ll come back for it tomorrow,” he decided, jumping back in and revving up the engine.

   “My Manolos are in there.”

Manolos. Oh, boy, wasn’t that a blast from the past? Another shoe whore. Just what he needed. “They’ll still be here tomorrow, believe me.”

She was going to object, but a sudden sneeze derailed her. And another and another. He opened the glove compartment, took out a wad of napkins, and offered it to her. “Why did you leave the car?”

“Stopped working,” she answered, grabbing a napkin and wiping her nose. “And when I began walking… it wasn’t snowing so much.”

“You aren’t from anywhere around here, are you?” Her dumb clothes were a dead giveaway. Her actions too. She shook her head, placing her hands in front of the air vent. “New York City.”

   It figured.

She narrowed her dark eyes on him. “Why?”

The heat had kicked in. She must have finally felt it, because her teeth weren’t chattering as hard. She was even getting some color back in her face.

He looked resolutely forward and edged the truck into motion. “For your information—next time you decide to take a stroll in the Minnesota countryside, you need better shoes. And clothes. You don’t assume the weather conditions will improve. And you never leave your vehicle. Ever. Under any circumstances. You don’t stand in the middle of the road without wearing reflectors. And—”

A sudden move from the passenger side caught his attention. He gave her a quick glance and saw, flabbergasted, that her head had lolled to the side.

   “Lady, you okay?”

A light snore was all the answer he got. “And you don’t get into a stranger’s ride and proceed to check out,” he muttered. Jesus fucking Christ. Talk about a lack of common sense.

This Man Series

This Man Indeed!!! I can’t get enough of this Man!

Omg, with ‘With This Man’ announcement for next March a reread of all that is Jesse Ward is mandatory! All time fav series, after all… <3

And THIS MAN sure defined the bar and start of the OTT obsessive and possessive Alphas that followed and that I adored so much! What can I say, I love a bit of crazy, specially when they are alllll about their woman!

This series was one of my first ventures in Erotica Contemporary Romance that followed Fifty Shades of Grey and I couldn’t have fallen harder for Jesse – even though there were times I wanted to nut punch him (yes, I’m talking about the ‘Days that can’t be mentioned and I deleted from my memory’, lol) – but that being said, the emotional journey that Jodi Ellen Malpas gave with this couple will FOREVER be branded in my memory. Jesse Ward became Iconic Name in the Best Book Boyfriend Wall, I tell you!

Gripping and heart wrenching emotional moments that had me bawling my eyes out, sweet and tender times that leave you enchanted, and the some STEAMIEST, sexiest and most sexual tension scenes I’ve had the pleasure of reading – even now hundreds of books later -, all wrapped up in an exquisite and BRILLIANT writing, and PERFECT character development! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Update: There will never be enough Jesse Ward, so now, all our fan girl’s prayers were answered and With This Man is almost here! Can it be March already, please?! 😉

Excerpt

I push my hands from his shoulders and palm his jaw as his stubble prickles against my fingers while my hands wander up to his hair. His hat falls to the ground with a thud and I know he’s just as lost in me as I am in him, because he doesn’t even make a move to pick it up. He lets out a deep grunt when I mold myself against his body, seeking some sort of friction. The next thing I know, my back is against the door and he’s gripping my bottom. His mouth hits my jaw with a bite of his teeth, making a squeak of pleasure shoot up my throat, and his deep rumble of laughter reaches my ears as he presses me harder into the door with his hips. The heavy bulge of his erection against that spot makes me so desperate for him that I whimper in relief when his mouth finally closes over mine in a wet tangle of tongues.

I’ve never been kissed so thoroughly.

This is the kind of kiss that sets the bar for any that might follow.

The kind that shows you everything you’ve been missing and everything you never knew you wanted. I’m going to be comparing every kiss I ever have to my dark cowboy’s, even though I know there’s a good chance no one will ever compare. The sounds coming from my mouth, the ones being swallowed by his, are nothing short of needy. My hips move in tandem with the thrusts of his, and even though we’re both fully clothed, I know it won’t take much more of this for me to go off like the town’s fireworks on the Fourth of July.

“Fuck, you taste just like apple pie,” he whispers against my lips, breaking away with a gasp.

“Huh?”

“Goddamn, I love apple pie,” he says before his mouth is back on mine, this time with a whole new kind of hunger deepening his kisses.

I’m held captive, enraptured. Then his hands move from my bottom to glide up my torso. He lifts his hard chest off mine and suddenly those delicious fingers are at my breasts. Even if I had big boobs his hands would dwarf them, I’m sure, but as it is he covers both with a firm grasp before adjusting his hold with a deft twist of the wrists. His mouth continues to feast on mine while his huge hands learn my body with slow movements. I tear my mouth from his with a breathy moan when he pushes my shirt up and slips his fingers into the cups of my bra to tweak my nipples.

“Oh, God,” I moan when he does it again.

“I can’t get enough of you,” he rumbles.

“Please,” I beg, not with the slightest clue as to what I’m begging for.

His hips dig even harder into mine as he leans back, supporting me against the door with that connection alone as he pulls my shirt off. The darkness makes me feel more confident than I normally would be, almost half naked with a man—no, a stranger.

“Yours too,” I tell him as his fingers move to unclasp my bra. “I want to feel your skin on mine,” I breathe, taking over the task so he’ll hopefully give me what I want.

I fumble in my haste to feel more of this dangerous arousal he’s creating in my body, but the second my bra is free and dangling toward the floor, his naked chest collides against mine, pushing me into the door with a force that sends the air rushing out of my lungs.

His mouth hits my collarbone at the same time his hands grasp my bottom, sliding me up the door until I feel the wet heat of his breath against my breast.

Then he stops.

Header Cowboy Up

4.5 ‘Sweeter than apple pie’ Stars

I’ll be damned, Cowboy Up – and everything that is Clayton Davis – was the perfectly tied bow to wrap up this amazing Coming Home series! Pure romance novel perfection!

That’s right, I expected Clayton Davis’ story to be fantastic, given silent and broody men make the best romance heroes, in my opinion, and HOT DAMN, this man sure did surpass my expectations!

“I’m old enough to go after what I want without playin’ games. There ain’t a thing cocky about that.” God, his voice is pure sex.

Incredibly that what Clayton and Caroline thought would be a one time, no strings attached, night stand, where they could lose themselves of their life troubles would end up being just the very beginning of their story. Even if at the time they were anonymous to one another.

I’ve never been kissed so thoroughly.
This is the kind of kiss that sets the bar for any that might follow.
The kind that shows you everything you’ve been missing and everything you never knew you wanted.

Well, one night was more than enough for them to be branded on each other. How could it not? That kind of sexual chemistry, and physical connection we felt from the start couldn’t be beat. It was a ‘once in a lifetime’ occurrence, and they felt it deep in their soul.

“You taste like apple pie all over?” he oddly asks, when the sounds of him getting naked stop.
“What?”
“Never tasted anything better,”

Yep, they were instantly hooked, even though they tried to ignore the connection at first, but once they cross paths again, and realize they aren’t that stranger after all, well, all bets are off, at least on Clayton’s side. There is no way he miss the chance to have what he thought he’d never have in his life, what his siblings had successfully achieved, his very own happy ever after…

This must be what it feels like to miss something so deeply you crave it . . . even if you never really had it to begin with.

“Don’t let go of me,” I tell my dark cowboy.
“Not sure that’s gonna be possible, sweetness,”

I adored that from that second chance meeting, Clayton knew what he wanted, what Caroline represented, and what she could be to him and to his future, and that he was willing to fight for her and with her if necessary, to show her all they could become, that they could be each other’s everything!

“You make me feel like I’m comin’ alive, sweetheart.

Caroline was really as sweet as pie, and considering her sad background, it’s no surprise how strong she is, and how difficult it is for her to accept and believe Clayton could be her chance of true happiness.

“I probably should just tell you all the ugly parts of me so you’ll understand what a waste of time pursuing this would be. Save you from gettin’ upset when you realize you’re wastin’ your time on someone broken,” she mumbles.
“Darlin’, you’re not broken. You’re still standin’, which means you’re just a little dinged up, maybe even a little bit bent, but you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who isn’t.”

I’ve seen bent. I’ve seen fractured. But if the people I know who’ve been both can find what they need to be happy and move on, so can this beautiful woman who has me wrapped in her spell.

Oh my Lordy, see what I mean by how dreamy this cowboy is? If not for one small recollection that Caroline revealed about their past, of something that she witnessed as a teen that kind of tainted my image of him – yes, I know it’s in their past, but it was totally unnecessary for their story, at least to that level, imo – and I just couldn’t erase it from my mind *cue sad face*, he would have been the perfect romance H in my book! He’s so beyond amazing, I really wish I could delete that revelation, lol. Why oh why did that have to be there?! If not, Cowboy Up would have been the full five stars, because their story is THAT fantastic and heartwarming! Want more proof?

“One night of being bad with you, Caroline, and I felt more with you in the darkness than I’ve ever felt with anyone else in the light.

“I feel the pull to you like someone lassoed me around chest and yanked.”

ALL THE QUOTES, people! Seriously, Harper Sloan outdid herself when she created all that is Clayton Davis. This man is pure Romance Hero GOLD, and even though I’m giving you so many snippets of his awesomeness, you have no idea how incredibly hard it was to choose amongst so many brilliant, deep and heart touching quotes! This man… All the feels, I tell you!

It’s his affections, after all, that have shown me how to complete the puzzle inside of me—that have allowed me to finally shed the past and start living.

Ask me, baby. Ask me what roads we’re traveling on.”
“Wh-what roads?”
“The ones that collide together and form one indestructible path.

And better yet, Clay is not only a heart stealing, swoon worthy cowboy, no sir, like he wasn’t lethal enough for our hearts, this man had to be a dirty talking, panty melting, COWBOY! Enough said, consider yourself warned!

“My good girl doesn’t need any help bein’ bad anymore, does she? I’m about to love you so hard, you’ll think I’m still inside you for days. So vividly that you’ll take one step, feel what my hard does to you, and come from just the thought of me takin’ you alone.”

Seriously, I feel like I can’t say anymore to show you how beyond amazing Clayton and Caroline are, and how incredible and enrapturing their love story is: the true epitome of Romance novel!

Sweet, super sexy, and so immensely emotional, that I’m sure will touch even the coldest of hearts and so perfectly fitting for this holiday seasonal! I can’t tell you much more than, here are a few more quotes that I can’t resist showing you and to say: ONE CLICK this baby today!

My reason for waking and my reason for breathing. The woman who made the risk of loving her unquestionably worth it, because with her love, that risk is really just a reward.

“How did I not see it before! You rode in on your white horse, knocked me on my butt, but saved me in the end. My knight in pressed flannel and Wranglers.”

“Never gonna stop lovin’ you, Caroline.”
Her breath hitches. “And I love you, Clayton. Always.”

THAT ENDING!!!! It was PERFECTION! I’ll miss all this guys so much, but Ms. Sloan sure did tied up everything perfectly with an amazing HEA not only for this couple, but for all the Davis family! Sooooo good, and plenty of babies and bright futures for all of them. Perfect ending for this once-tortured, now-blissful siblings! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

And that’s how Clayton and Caroline, Maverick and Leighton, and Quinn and Tate . . . came home.

Synopsis

When the new girl in town, Eliza “Izzy” Forrester decides to hit the local drinking hole, she’s not ready to meet the town’s good, solid guy. She’s definitely not prepared to engage in her very first hookup with him.

Then Izzy wakes up the next morning in Johnny Gamble’s bed and good girl Izzy finds she likes being bad for Johnny.

Even so, Izzy feels Johnny holding her at arm’s length. But Johnny makes it clear he wants more and Izzy already knows she wants as much of hot-in-bed, sweet-out-of-it Johnny Gamble.

Floating on air thinking this is going somewhere, Izzy quickly learns why Johnny holds distant.

He’s in love with someone else. Someone who left him and did it leaving him broken. Whoever was up next would be runner up, second best. Knowing the stakes, Izzy will take what she can get from the gentleman that’s Johnny Gamble. And even knowing his heart might never mend, Johnny can’t seem to stay away from Izzy.

Until out of nowhere, his lost love comes back to town. He’s not going back, but Johnny still knows the right thing to do is let Izzy go.

And Izzy knew the stakes, so she makes it easy and slips though his fingers.

But that’s before Johnny realizes Eliza moved to town to escape danger that’s been swirling around her.

And that’s why Johnny decides to wade in.

That and the fact Eliza Forrester makes breakfast with a canary singing on her shoulder and fills out tight dresses in a way Johnny Gamble cannot get out of his head.

Excerpt

“Izzy?” she answered.
“Hey, I’m home,” I told her.
“Okay, well…how are you?”
How was I?
Johnny’s behavior explained by the sad fact it was the anniversary of his father’s death, but still explained, and he was coming over for dinner the next night, not to mention, after not being affectionate (at all, unless you counted sitting me on the countertop, which I kind of did) after the last time we’d had sex, he made out with me at the door of my car for a good, long, happy while—I was great.
“I’m great,” I told her, opening Serengeti’s stall and moving in, lifting a hand to pat her jaw while she moved her nose to snuffle my neck and blow at my hair.
“Damn,” Deanna muttered.
My hand arrested on Serengeti and I focused on Deanna.
“What?” I asked.
“Damn,” she repeated.
“Damn what?” I asked.
“Well, just to say Johnny Gamble is Johnny Gamble.”
A specific area in my chest squeezed at the way she imparted that obvious but still confusing information.
“What’s that mean?” I asked.
“He’s Johnny Gamble of Gamble Garages. Did he tell you that?”
No he didn’t tell me that.
And suddenly I was embarrassed about something that I hadn’t liked all along.
But it was worse since Deanna knew more about a man I’d slept with than I did.
Serengeti was getting fidgety, so I used my hand on her to lead her out of her stall, and once in the corridor, she trotted out the open bay at the back, directly into her pasture.
I moved to Amaretto as I shared with Deanna, “No, he didn’t tell me that. I mean, we talked but we were also doing other things.” I let that lie. It did, weighty between us on the phone, before I went on, “I don’t know what that means.”
Even though it seemed like I did. Something seemed familiar about that.
“You haven’t lived here long enough,” she murmured while I opened Amaretto’s stall and moved in for some quick pats before I let him loose. Louder, Deanna said, “You know the gas station in town?”
Oh yes.
That was where I’d seen it.
“He owns that?”
“That and seven more of them across three counties. None in the city, just in the counties. Some of them are like mini-mart stores. All of them sell gas and do work on cars.”
Wow.
That was impressive.

About the Author

Kristin Ashley - headshot

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

Synopsis

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Harper Sloan returns with a passionate and breathless romance about the sparks that ignite when a cautious cowboy and a once-scorned woman open up to each other in the third installment of the Coming Home series.

As the eldest Davis, Clayton has always tried to lead by example. He takes his job as head of the family businesses seriously, making sure the farm and auto shop are running smoothly—along with keeping an eye on his brother and sister. For him, there’s a time and place to let go of the control he holds with an iron grip. And with the way he grew up, coupled with a disastrous end to his last relationship, he’s just fine with his quiet, solitary life.

Most of the time.

What he hadn’t counted on was the cute, quirky, shy bookstore owner, Caroline Michaels. She’s the proverbial woman next door—well, the next town over, that is. Caroline hasn’t lived an easy life, but after escaping a verbally abusive ex, she’s finally living it for herself. The last thing she ever expected was a one-night stand with Clay Davis she can’t stop thinking about.

So when she falls on hard times and Clay comes out of nowhere to her rescue, she realizes just how impossible it’ll be to stay away from him. Now all she has to do is convince him to live a little…. Will Clay be able to give up the reins and finally settle down? And, more importantly, will Caroline muster enough courage to lasso him up?

Whatthehail
Synopsis

He’s wanted her since he repossessed her car and made her cry.

Baylor Hail knew two things. One, he hated crying females. Two, it was even worse when he was the one to make that female cry.

He never meant to do anything but his job, but when one thing leads to another, suddenly all he can think about is the broken woman whose car he towed.

She’s wanted him since he patted her back and told her it was okay to cry even though she knew he was lying.

Nothing ever goes right for Lark.

Not when she got married. Not when she tried to leave her abusive husband, and not when she arrived in a new town with a fresh, clean slate.

That clean slate came courtesy of a secret organization that specializes in helping abused women find a way out.  They set her up with a whole new life. It just turns out that it happened to be right smack dab in the middle of another woman’s old one.

That woman also happens to be down on her luck, something that Lark learns the hard way when on her first day there, her car is towed by a handsome stranger.

It’s been two years since she’s felt any kind of sexual attraction toward a man, and she reacts badly.  We’re talking full-on, hysterical breakdown as he loads her car onto his tow truck while looking at her like she’s lost it.

Maybe being crazy isn’t all that bad.

The next thing she knows, she’s spending time with the sexy stranger and life couldn’t be better—even though she still doesn’t have a car.

She thinks she’s in the clear, that she’s got it all figured out… well, that is until her ex-husband finds her again.

Now the ball is in her sexy stranger’s court as he decides whether or not her kind of crazy is worth getting killed over.

Turns out, for Baylor Hail, maybe it is.

As I exited their house a couple minutes later, three pieces of bacon in one hand, and a disposable cup of coffee in the other, I came to a sudden halt when I saw the woman outside getting ready to mow her lawn.

She wasn’t in jeans today.

No, she was in fucking Spandex.

Spandex.

Spandex that was pink, stretchy, and clung to her unlike anything I’d ever seen before.

The closest thing I could compare it to was fucking saran wrap.

“So, what are today’s panties?”  I asked, my filter all but gone.

This woman had the power to unman me.

She grinned and said, “I’d have to take another testicle shot at you with my button for you to find out.”

I was pretty sure it’d be worth it.

“Come on,” I said. “My ball is still throbbing if that counts.”

It was, too. Each step I took caused a sharp pain to shoot up into my belly.

I’d never felt something so debilitating in my life, and I’d been hit by a goddamn car.

She immediately reddened at my words.

“If you have to know,” she blushed seven shades of red, “they say ‘Sour Puss’ on them. Happy?”

My grin was slow as it took over my face. “Sure am.”

She rolled her eyes and looked away.

“Do you live on this street?”

I shook my head and pointed to the house that was three down from hers. “That’s my brother’s place.”

Understanding dawned.

“The tow truck.” She snapped her fingers as if she was let in on a secret. “I’ve always wondered if he was the owner, or if he was just special enough to take his truck home,” she commented.

I shrugged. “All of the employees take them home, honestly. The only way they don’t is if they’re still in the probationary period, but everyone that’s working for us right now is off probation.”

“Why?”

“Why what?” I countered.

“Why do they take them home?”

I shrugged again. “It’s easier to have them with us, that way when we get a call after hours, we don’t have to go to the shop before we run it.”

“Ahhh,” she murmured. “That makes sense, I guess. Why would someone be on probation?”

“If they’re new hires or if they’ve done something stupid like lose a car on the interstate.”

She snorted. “That doesn’t actually happen, does it?”

I grinned. “More than you’d think.”

She leaned her hip against the lawn mower almost out of instinct as she started to laugh.

However, the lawn mower started to roll, and she began to fall.

Doing my manly duty, and my manly duty only, I lurched forward, ignoring the twinge in my balls, and caught her before her ass could kiss the ground.

She gasped when I pulled her in line with my body, and her hands went to my chest.

“That was close,” she gasped. “You’re fast.”

I let her go and stepped away, and my knee nearly gave out.

“Goddamn,” I groaned as I doubled over.

She bent down with me, but my eyes were squeezed shut as I tried to breathe through the pain in my ball—which had trumped the pain in my knee.

I really thought that I might die.

Header What the Hail

HAIL YES! I found MY Hail man!!! Baylor Hail… Swoon…

These Hail brothers sure are something else, and even though each of them is his particular brand of danger, they still manage to be as different amongst themselves, but still the same wild and tormented men at their core.

“I don’t…do…I didn’t even realize people carried flasks anymore.”
Her grin was rather manic. “Six boys and two girls, darlin’.”  She tucked the flask back into her purse. “I nearly died going through puberty with them. If it wasn’t for this emergency flask, then I surely would have passed away from the abundance of attitude and hormones that filled my house.”

Hell, even their own mother is the first to acknowledge the kind of menace these guys were since birth! LOL

And within this Hail trope is where we find Baylor, aka MY Hail Man! The most reclusive and laid back of the Hail brothers was absolute Romance Hero PERFECTION!

I can see how even the heartbroken and tormented Lark, that ran from men, and any resemblance of relationship with the opposite sex, could resist nor stay away from this delicious male specimen.

In my old life, I’d been a phlebotomist. The bigger and juicier the veins, the more appealing a man became.
This man, though?
He had not just one good vein, but dozens of them.
By the time I’d been able to peel my eyes away from those muscular forearms, I stalled again on his tattooed-to-the-elbows biceps.

But Baylor wasn’t like other men. He was caring and smart, but he was quiet. Subdued. He didn’t like the big hubbub of nightlife.
He was like me…wasn’t he?

And oh boy, did the attraction have to be soul deep, considering how much pain, suffering and loss Lark – one of the many rescued bird by the Free crew – has suffered in her young age, in their horrific marriage. Enough to last a lifetime.

Because it was either that, or I was dead.
And I didn’t want to be dead. I’d tried it once.
It wasn’t for me.

“He broke something important inside of me, Baylor,” I told him. “When I came here…when you first met me…I was just existing. I was barely able to breathe.”

“Something is broken inside of me,” I blurted.
His eyes studied me for long moments before he let me go.
“Everyone’s broken, Lark,” he said. “You just have to find a way to fix yourself. Tape sometimes works.”

Even a man as reclusive and alienated as Baylor Hail had a weakness: women’s tears. And given he was the cause for those tears, when they first met, let’s just say they both made an impression on the other…

It’s because of her big, beautiful gray eyes. Those tears had made her eyes look like a rainstorm, and you fucking love rainstorms.

I’d just seen her that morning, but it felt like freakin’ weeks.
It’s like my eyes were thirsting for just a glance of her.

I honestly couldn’t have adored Baylor and Lark any more than I did. Maybe because I saw in them a kindred spirit in their anti-social/reclusive nature, or maybe by the way they really were twin souls, but I just gave my heart to them from the very first page on.

I’d be able to resist him.
I would.
I should’ve known that trying to resist Baylor Hail would be futile.
I didn’t, though.
Instead, I broke my cardinal rule.
To never get too close to anyone again.
I got too close.
And I liked it there.

Yep, Lark really nailed it there, it is impossible to resist Baylor! I love a good silent type – and this man sure was that -, add to that that from the get go he knew she was special, and how he fought for her, and to help her heal in any way possible, plus, I loved how unafraid he was of commitment (how refreshing that was!) and specially loved his quick solution  proposal so soon into the book. No, I’m not spoiling it! LOL

“I was checking on this girl whose car wouldn’t start, and when she stood up out of her car, the button on her jean shorts popped off and shot me straight in the ball. My favorite left one.”
“You have a favorite ball?”
That was Hannah, my sister-in-law, who’d asked that.
I nodded my head. “I do. It’s the one that’s closest to my heart.”
It was the truth.

OMG, those hilarious, ROFL moments, people! Seriously! I expected, given Lark’s tortured past, and her trauma, that this book would be a bit darker that Lani Lynn Vale’s usual diversity of setting, but yet again this woman ROCKED IT!!!! That’s right, she managed to yet again give us an absolutely perfect amount and mix of sad, happy, loving, suspenseful and sexy moments. I’ll NEVER forget the two very particular ( even though I’m not a man : ouchhhh) LMFAO scenes Baylor and Lark have gone through! OMG, seriously EPIC!

Another reason for which What The Hail became my series favorite, and well as one of my LLV all time fav, was their relationship development speed, and how the whole plot really did revolve around them, and the clarity of the feelings! Almost zero push and pull, and zero OW/OM drama, apart from Lark’s ex.

Fast unveiling of the story, but still deep and so well constructed characters, at every level, that surprised me with the clarity of their understanding, and just made my black heart warm with their devotion to one another.

They don’t see what I see.
Them? They look at her and see the curvy body, the full head of beautiful hair. The ass. The tits.
Me? I see everything—including that. Tits and ass for sure. But even deeper than that, I see the caring heart. The need to be needed. The love she had for life. The worry that she wasn’t good enough for me.

No, she only saw the beauty in everything around her.
And that’s what humbled me.

“I guess you could say that. But Baylor and me?  We’re like two kindred souls. It’s easy when you find someone that is the second half of your soul—the person who gets you like no one else gets you. I may not have known the man long, Dr. Castleberry, but I’ve known him long enough to know that I love him. That I can’t see myself without him. That I don’t want to wake up in the morning without him at my side.”

So there you have it! All the reason for FIVE STARS, and for which I consider Lark and Baylor’s book a MUST READ, ONE CLICK story! This series is getting better and better, and given how swoon-worthy Baylor was, I’m giddy with excitement to see what Lani Lynn Vale has reserved for Tate and Dante, that were – before I met Baylor, that was, lol – my most anticipated of the Hail Raisers! Can’t wait! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

“One day,” he said, pushing in.
So goddamn slow.
“One day I’m going to fill this belly with my baby,” he promised. “I’m going to love every goddamn second of having it filled. I’m going to worship your body. I’m going to shower you with love. I’m going to make sure it’s the best thing ever, all because I want it. I want you. I can’t fucking wait…but I’m going to enjoy just you and me for a little bit.”

Baylor was my home. He was my future. I couldn’t have dreamt up a better life than the one I was finally living.

After a colorful array of jobs all over Europe ranging from translator to chocolatier to travel agent to sushi chef to flight dispatcher, Elle Aycart is certain of one thing and one thing only: aside from writing romances, she has abso-frigging-lutely no clue what she wants to do when she grows up. Not that it stops her from trying all sorts of crazy stuff. While she is probably now thinking of a new profession, her head never stops churning new plots for her romances. She lives currently in Barcelona, Spain, with her husband and two daughters, although who knows, in no time she could be living at the Arctic Circle in Finland, breeding reindeer.

Elle loves to hear from readers!

Synopsis

Winnie thinks she has the perfect life.

Two beautiful, healthy children. A police officer husband. A job that she loves. Oh, and let’s not forget that she’s a nationally ranked marathon runner.

Fast forward six months, and her perfect life has imploded.

Winnie finds herself in a completely new world, and this new world is a brutal bitch.

In this new life of hers, her husband is gone. He realizes, at the worst possible time, that he’s no longer in love with her. He’s in love with her best friend. So he leaves, and doesn’t look back.

Her sixteen-year-old daughter is in trouble with the law, and she’s barely making ends meet thanks to losing the job that was keeping her and her tiny family afloat.

Then, the last thing that could make it all bearable, her running, is ripped out from under her, too. Thanks to a spinal stroke that leaves her unable to walk, let alone run, she’s having to relearn how to do the simplest of tasks—such as putting on her own pants.

She’s at the lowest of lows, and the last thing she wants is a sexy, bearded, motorcycle riding alpha to tell her how to live her life.

But Steel Cross never asks her what she wants.

***

The moment Steel Cross sees Winnie’s daughter steal some shoes for her younger brother, he knows he’s in trouble.

He’s a sucker for misunderstood teens. After all, he was once one himself.

He knows he can’t just walk away, and the moment he sees that troubled teen’s mother, he doesn’t just know it, he feels it. Down to the very bottom of his soul.

With his share of hard knocks, he knows that he shouldn’t step in and make his move on a fellow police officer’s ex. There’s a code, after all, yet he just can’t seem to help himself.

He’s done being the good guy. Sometimes he just wants to be bad.

And Winnie makes him realize that being bad is still kind of good. As long as you’re with the right person.

Excerpt

I’d never, not once, had the pleasure of giving a blow job.

Yet, I wanted to give one…to Steel.

Jesus Christ, did I want to give him one.

The man turned me on in ways that I had no clue I could be turned on by, yet here I was, wondering what it would feel like to give the man a blow job.

My curiosity got the better of me as I googled more tips—which they’d said they’d done as a comparison—and then I got lost in the World Wide Web.

My first stop had been Cosmopolitan!

My second had been some random Joe-Blow (literally, that was the name of the website) blog that gave the men’s top ten best blow job tips—according to men.

1. Maintain eye contact.
2. Tie your hair back, it shows your dedication.
3. Allow him to put his hand in your hair and control the movements.

That, I could do! In fact, the idea of Steel putting his hands in my hair and controlling all of the movement was downright arousing.

4. Use your hand as well as your mouth.  Twist it side to side lightly as you pump and suck him.

Okay, pump, suck, and twist. Check!

5. Don’t use your teeth. Ever.

I shivered at the thought. That would suck, accidentally biting Steel’s dick. He’d probably never let me near him again and kick me straight the hell out of his bed. Though, I had to get in his bed first…

6. Drop down so he’s standing and you’re kneeling. There’s nothing more arousing than watching a woman get on her knees.

That thought made me shiver. Would Steel like me on my knees?

I sure the hell hoped so. I’d love to get on my knees for him.

Then again, I was doing good with my rehab…he still might have to help me back up.

I winced. Maybe I should just get on the bed between his splayed thighs…yes, that was how I’d do it.

7. Suck his balls.

Suck his balls? How the hell did I put those in my mouth? There wasn’t enough room!

8. Go slow. It’s not a race.
9. Swallow.

Well, that was self-explanatory. But I didn’t know if I could swallow. I’d try, but what if I gagged?

10. We like it when you gag.

Did they? What if I accidentally threw up? That would completely ruin the mood.

“What are you doing?”

I squeaked and jumped as Steel came out of the bathroom.
