Synopsis

Rhys Rivera is the star short-stop for the Longview Lumberjacks. Many know him, even more love him. He has a pretty face, a quick smile, and an air of danger about him that everyone seems to adore.

He’s not known as the bad boy of baseball for nothing.
It all started with his father, who decided to be a criminal mob boss, then die.
Fortunately for his uncle, Rhys wants absolutely nothing to do with the family business and runs before anyone can figure out which way is up.

By the time his uncle, the successor to his father’s criminal empire, thinks to look for him, Rhys has made too big of a name for himself to be taken out quietly, and he wants to keep it that way.
Fast forward eight years, and Rhys is living life one breath at a time, just waiting for the other shoe to drop. That shoe coming in the form of a nosy neighbor who has no idea just how hot she is in her mail carrier uniform.

Her sweet little body and positive outlook on life make him want to laugh at how naïve she is when it comes to the way of the world.

The harder he tries to stay away, the weaker he seems to get, until one day he decides to put his morals on hold long enough to satisfy his cravings.

One time is all he needs—or so he tells himself.

But then two pink lines change everything, and all of a sudden, he doesn’t have just himself to worry about anymore.

5 ‘What if one day we live happily ever after?‘ Stars

ALL THE SWOONS! There’s No Crying In Baseball series truly is THE BEST!  Rhys and Henley couldn’t have surprise me more (new couple crush!), and this book… WOW, just WOW! Getting more and more addicted to these Lumberjacks and their stories by the minute – or should I say book!

For those of you Lani Lynn Vale fans like myself, you’ll recognized Rhys and Henley from previous books from the author, specially Too Bad So Sad, where Tyler, Henley’s brother is the male main character, and it is where we found out a bit about these two, and since there, I’m been beyond intrigued by their particular situation, lol. Listen, Pitch tells us all that happens to these two and that brought them to their HEA, answering all my questions about their relationship, and then some! 😉

Rhys and Henley are next door neighbors and didn’t even know each other until Hen is forced to go next door, and a whole event occurs, during which they see each other for the first time, and let me just say that even with the sad circumstances the outcome couldn’t have been better for either. It only took that very scene and succeeding reaction from Rhys, to make a long lasting impactful impression on Henley – and myself! I was already half in love with the man just by that, lol.

I’ll keep it very vague here because I truly don’t want to spoil it for anyone, and their journey is a rollercoaster of events and emotion, with such a beautiful slow development to their relationship, that made them more real for me, and that much more endearing.

Rhys is not only a famous baseball player, but he also has a very dark and impossible to cut strings past, all the way from his father’s connection with the Italian mafia. It’s a cross he has always beared, and one he can’t find a way to vanish…

I was a dark, dangerous, broken man.

Subjecting a woman to my world was a bad idea. Women tended to die.
However, for some reason, I knew without a shadow of a doubt that I could protect this one.
That I could protect Henley and would do it with my life if it came down to it.

That is until another horrible event happens, putting him in a coma (yes, I’m giving you this tid bit, just because it’s very early on, and there is no way to explain the awesomenss of this woman without it, lol), and that is exactly when we get  – along with Rhys at the time – to see the amazing and caring person that Henley is (specially because she had no idea it was her amazing neighbor at the time,  and now, it was her we were falling in love too. Seriously, this couple absolutely rocked!!!

Rhys and Henley were SO well matched, it truly seemed like Fate!

“What if I was born for you, and you were put onto this earth especially for me?”

“What if one day we live happily ever after?”

Isn’t he just the swooniest! The way he cared for her from the get go, that very first meeting, the way he always brought her up and was soooooo attentive with the hearing imparement  – yes, his sister also suffers from it – but was so much more than that. It was Henley. He truly saw HER! And loved every part of her!

Their slow paced relationship development, the beautiful friendship it blossomed even they were insanely attracted to one another, and even with the impositions given by the subplot, I never once doubted their love. They were THAT amazing together and in each interaction! Told you, totally fan-girling for these two!

Ms. Vale indeed is rocking my world with this series, and I can’t wait to see who is the next Lumberjack to fall! SO many amazing secondary characters we saw here, once again, and so much potential for equally unforgettable stories. Can’t wait!!!

It was as if, one day, I’d woken up and she’d become the center of my world.
Literally.
From the moment that I’d woken from that coma, my life had irrevocably changed.
I didn’t scare her.
I didn’t intimidate her. I didn’t hate her.
I fucking loved her.
A lot.

“I love you, Rhys.”
He looked up sharply, and his entire face broke out into a grin. “I’ve loved you since the day I woke up in the hospital room and found you staring at me…I just didn’t know what the emotion I was feeling was.”
