His wide, warm palm grazed her lower back as they wove their way through the tables to the exit. They crossed over the water garden in silence, slowing as they reached a fork in the path.

“Which way?” Deacon asked. “I’ll walk you back.”

“That’s sweet, but you really don’t have to. It’s a five-star resort, not downtown Los Angeles.”

Deacon kept walking. “True. But you know, I took you to dinner and all.”

She arched a brow at him. “It’s also an all-inclusive resort. Maybe I took you.”

“Maybe you did.”

He flashed her that slightly lopsided grin that hit her right in the chest. She conceded to the walk, and together, they followed the brick path. The resort was dark, but lights along the sidewalk lit the path and shined up the skinny gray trunks of the swaying palms. It was quiet, and when they didn’t pass even one other person, she was glad he was walking her back.

She slowed as they came to the breezeway leading to her building and pointed up the steps to the second floor. “I’m up there, so…”

Deacon started up the steps. “I’ll walk you to the door. I’m funny like that.”

She probably should have said no, insisted that she could make it to her door on her own. Because of course she could. But she didn’t insist, just followed enormously glad she’d removed the HONEYMOON banner from her door.

They reached her room, and she turned to face him. Just the two of them now, up here, alone at her door. She felt a slight buzzing in her head that had nothing to do with alcohol.

“Well, Clare of the here and now.”

She rolled her eyes at the reminder of her earlier word-vomit ramble. “It was nice to meet you.” She stuck out her hand, hoping it wasn’t sweaty.

“It was nice to meet you, too.”

It didn’t feel like a simple handshake as he wrapped his fingers around hers. “I had fun tonight. You turned what might have been a horrible night into something surprisingly nice.”

“I’m glad.”

“Thank you for catching me and saving my top and for dinner and talking and…” And maybe she could stoptalking.

“You’re welcome.”

A frog gave a low croak, and another answered, but she figured the pounding of her heart was louder.

The buzzing in her head grew louder, and she felt dizzy from looking into his eyes and staring at his lips because she wanted him to kiss her. She wanted to feel those smooth, firm lips on hers, to taste him and feel his arms around her.I’m losing my mind.

“You’re beautiful,” he said. “I’ve been wanting to say that all night.” He lifted his hand and lightly brushed his thumb over her cheek.

Then he leaned in, and she moved. Just…moved. In and up, her fingers twisting in the front of his shirt. She was just falling into the taste of him, just getting that warm, tingling flood of a first kiss when her brain fully registered that he’d been leaning in to kiss her cheek

“I’m sorry.” She swallowed hard, felt a stinging heat flooding into her cheeks, and wished desperately to disappear. Deacon was staring at her in complete confusion. That made two of them. “I’m… really sorry.”

She spun to her door. A stiff wind sang through the open-air hallway, slapping her hair across her eyes. How she got her key in the lock, she had no idea. Mumbling one more apology over her shoulder, she opened the door and closed it behind her. She stood, heart pounding in mortification, her lips buzzing.

The champagne glasses and fruit and cheese tray had been cleared. The bed had been turned back, and the damn swans were back, nestled in the center of the bed and kissing right on their terrycloth lips.

Nobody does a Single Parent like Claudia Connor does! Single Parent trope Haven I tell you!

What a emotional and touching journey Claudia Connor gave us with Love At Last!

The last thing Clare expected the day after being jilted at the altar, after deciding to go on her ‘honeymoon’, was to meet the sexy veterinary, Dr. Deacon Montgomery.

Deacon, single parent of twin girls, is fully dedicated to his little ones, so when he meets Clare on the resort he’s staying for a conference, he’s shocked by the connection he instantly feels. Never in a lifetime did he expect to meet a woman that caused him to crave things he had never felt before, or that he thought were even on the cards for him.

He wanted to kiss her more than he’d ever wanted to kiss another woman in his life. He needed his mouth on hers like he needed air. And it was the raw desperation that kept him from moving.

One wide palm stroked down her side and slowly back up like he owned her. Like she was his. What would that be like? To be Deacon’s. To be loved by Deacon?

The chemistry and attraction were undeniable, the soul recognition was beautifully  described, and the unfolding of their connection on those days was naturally written. Their night of passion was palpable and oh so hot…

It had been fireworks, something she’d always thought she wanted. But anything that hot and bright couldn’t last long. Fireworks were just quick, bright bursts that left behind acrid smoke and a dark sky.

But uncontrollable event separates them and leaves them lost and with no way to contact. I will not reveal much, so that I don’t spoil their journey and all the events, but a LOT happens in all whole months of separation, but one thing never changed, their craving for one another – even if when it didn’t seem right – and Deacon’s will to find Clare no matter what. I adored that about him. The reunion is shocking in all senses, but oh so realistically written! Ms. Connor really knows how to pull every single one of our emotions!

Deacon was such an amazing main male character! Totally swoon worthy! His girls were his whole world, until he meets Clare, and every second we witness all those precious moments between him, Macy and Margo, just made us – and Clare – fall more and more in love with him! Who can resist a hot single dad?! 😉

You’ve got to admit there’s something extremely attractive about a single father. Not just that, but a man who clearly adores his little girls.

Yes, circumstances changed, life took turns and twists until it brought them back together. With all the new elements, unknown to them, they had to adapt and relearn, and even get to truly know each other, but this time, all in ‘real life’, no in the seclusion of a island resort. It wasn’t an easy task, specially with Clare’s deep seated and justified issues given all her failed relationships, plus all the events upon her separation, but Deacon fought for what he wanted, to show how much he wanted her, need her, loved her…

He loved her in ways he never even imagined loving a woman, this beautiful smart, sweet, amazing woman that he was so desperate for in every way one person could be desperate for another.

“You know I don’t have much success with these things.”
With a small smile, he caressed her cheek.
“Does anyone? I mean until the last one? The one that doesn’t end?”

Clare had a lot of inner struggle, but all their family and friends did an amazing in helping her, and specially Deacon, that never gave up on his search for her, and in winning her trust, and above all, LOVE!

The character development was, like in all Claudia Connor’s, brilliantly executed. The complexity of the personalities and emotions was flawlessly unparalleled. Not only Clare and Deacon, but all the secondary characters.

All the family moments, all the private ones, all the loving touches, the passionate ones, are seated deep in mind, and warmed my heart. Clare and Deacon’s journey was a unforgettable tale, an epic and oh so realistic forever kind of love.

Her eyes shimmered with tears, and he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that she was the love of his life. He’d already known it, but it grew. Every minute, every second.

“Though it seems strange to back things up to firsts when we already crossed the finish line.”
“I wouldn’t say we’ve reached the finish line,” he said seriously. “A victory, a success, yes. Two perfect little people, but definitely not finished.”

Love at Last was truly a emotional, heart touching story! Claudia Connor holds us captive from the very first word to last with the beautifully raw emotions, and genuine storyline. This book is right up there with my all time fav Claudia Connor, Worth The Fall, and that is saying a lot given it’s a standing feature on my all time fav list, best book boyfriend list and my fav single parent list, and what got me hooked on Claudia Connor’s brilliant writing. Love at Last is now on all those features, plus it made me crave even more of these characters, and I’m hoping Ms. Connor will give us some of the secondary characters stories! Pretty please…. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

And didn’t she more than anyone know how rare it was to find a love that made your heart tremble? And if you found it you should grab hold with both hand and not let go.

I found it. I found him. Everything I ever wanted, everything I was always looking for.
